Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Scheduled for January 7-10, 2008

The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held each January in Las Vegas, Nevada, is just around the corner. Scheduled for January 7-10, 2008 , the CES is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association.

What will be the big thing at this year’s CES? The on-going Blu-ray/HD-DVD War will definitely be a hot topic of discussion. Here are some of the other landmark technologies and products that have had their official debuts at CES:

2007: The Blu-ray disc and HD-DVD dual format player
2005: IP TV
2004: HD Radio
2003: Blu-Ray Disc, HDTV PVR
2002: Home Media Server
2001: The Plasma TV, Microsoft Xbox
2000: Digital Audio Radio (DAR)
1999: Hard-disc Video Recorder (DVR)
1998: HDTV
1985: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
1981: The Camcorder, Compact Disc Player
1975: Pong home console by Atari
1974: The Laserdisc Player
1970: The Video Cassette Recorder (VCR)

The first CES was held in New York City in 1967 with 17,000 attendees and 150,000 square feet of exhibit space. Now in its 41st year, the CES has grown to well over 100,000 attendees and takes up over 2 million square feet of exhibit space, including the entire Las Vegas Convention Center.
