Teenagers force small boys to fight - Happy slapping
TWO teenagers forced a boy of four to fight his five-year-old pal as they filmed them on a camera phone. The incident puts a vile new twist on the “happy slapping” craze, where young thugs record violent attacks on phones for kicks.
The teenagers shouted at the terrified lads to fight harder as they rolled in the dirt in a lonely wood. The ordeal only ended when local residents heard the screams and ran to the scene. The teenagers, said to be aged 16 and 14, face a police probe. Locals in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, say they know the pair involved. Officers have spoken to witnesses.
The five-year-old was playing with his friend outside his babysitter’s home when the two teenagers appeared. The youngsters ended up in nearby woodland with the yobs.
The babysitter’s husband said: “The older boys encouraged the little ones to start fighting.
“In the end, the little boys were really going hard at it, and rolling about in the mud.
“The teenagers filmed the whole thing on a mobile phone to make a happy slapping video.
“They were shouting at the little ones to egg them on.
“Neighbours heard screams and shouts and one raced down to the scene and broke up the fight.
“The wee boys were frightened and really upset. We’re all utterly disgusted. Nobody can believe the teenagers could be so sick.
“One of the teenagers ran away from the scene and initially they tried to deny everything.
“But they eventually admitted they had provoked the little boys.
“One of the older boys is 14 and lives locally. The other is 16 and lives nearby. The 14-year-old’s mother is very upset, because she brought him up well. “Both mums of the little boys are furious, and they have both been in touch with the cops.” Parents and teachers are becoming more and more concerned about happy slapping.
Police were called to the incident shortly after 3pm last Tuesday.
The mother of the 14-year-old who was allegedly involved said: “I don’t want to talk about this. “This has been blown out of proportion and is very upsetting.”
Police said: “Inquiries are ongoing into the alleged incident.”
Teachers at Merchiston Castle, in Edinburgh, launched a probe in May after a fight between two boys was filmed on a mobile. The film was then circulated around the private school on DVD.
